Afternoon tea?

Hello again!!

Thankyou all of you who’ve had a look at my site overnight, I must say, it’s all pretty exciting! Hopefully you’ll keep coming back, as it’s only going to get better here!

Hope you’ve all had a lovely day, mine’s been pretty good, pretty sure I’m approaching the business end of a wintry cold though, so currently tucked up in the warm with a cup of tea by my side.

As promised, here’s a little more about my current project!

I’m launching myself into a whole year of studying humans in life, at the moment that has mainly been ancient life, which has meant a lot of sketching from documentaries, books and museums. (Don’t museums smell fascinating? Sort of musty, and a little bit magic!)

In fact, here’s a little teaser of my work, some artefacts I’ve been working on, models of some of those that I’ve studied (bracelet, two brooches, arrowheads and a tiny model Viking ship, based on the find at Oseberg) :

Artefacts for interwebs

But the beauty of this project is that it all fits together. The scribbles I do in cafes, the study of our ancestors, the study of us as a race… We aren’t all that different. I noticed yesterday whilst in a museum that one of the Bronze Age relics was a mortar and pestle, for grinding herbs, spices, etc etc. Despite being a little chipped, and worn down (obviously) it was almost identical to the ones we use these days.

I found something inherently lovely about that, the mortar and pestle is quite like us in that it may seem to change with current fashions of taste and shape, but its functionality, purpose and general appearance has lasted for centuries.

So whether you’re slightly chipped, weather-beaten or are still sporting your glossy enamel, be proud of yourself, we are all built to endure, true kindness and love will last forever. 🙂
