That’s me!!
Our storm seems to have turned into lashing torrents of rain instead, but hey ho, that gives me a great excuse to wear my wellies!
My morning has been spent firstly dodging traffic’s puddle-spraying on a very thin path (5 minutes out of the house, I’m not sure I want to look like I’ve just emerged out of the sea!) and then drawing in a coffee-house. I forgot how brilliant fun this can be; there are so many interesting characters out there, and it will really help my work!! I hope to make it a recurring Monday occurrence.
And it was here that it was proved to me anew that the more you interact positively with your peers, the more positive you feel.
There was a family on the table next to me, a man and his two sons, one perhaps 7 and the other around 4 or 5. The boys were very cute: red wellies, curly hair, proper little hobbit children. I noticed that they were watching me draw, particularly the youngest boy, who was raising himself up in his seat so he could see my page. I asked if he wanted to see, but he smiled and turned away, hiding his face in his hands. His dad laughed, and I said not to worry, I used to be far far worse, in fact I used to scream blue murder and cry if a stranger so much as spoke to me!
Anyway, after about half an hour, they had finished their drinks and were getting their coats on to leave, and I could feel the youngest boy’s eyes again burning into my drawing. So I flipped to a new page and drew a little dinosaur, like this one:
I asked if he liked dinosaurs, and he nodded. I asked if he would like this one, and he nodded again, so I ripped it out and passed it to him. And he finally spoke to me, in a tiny little voice: “Thankyou.”
His dad and older brother were grinning from ear to ear, and the dad told me that I was “a refreshing change, usually people just sit there on their phones!”
Well, phones are boring, I said.
Making a little hobbit happy with a little dinosaur is much more rewarding :)!
